My heart is torn between two places

What decision do you make when your heart is in two places?

Over the past week my partner and I have been discussing where we’ll be this time next year. Neither of us knows, and we’re having a bit of trouble deciding.

We have been living overseas now for more than a year and we’re loving nearly every minute of it. We’ve made some great friends who I know we’ll keep for life and London is such an exciting place to be, there’s always so much to do. It makes for a bit of a change to Perth, the city I come from, where we would have about five bars (decent ones) to choose from on the weekends. In London there’s more like 5,000!

There are only two things holding us back from staying in the UK for longer. One is that neither of us have jobs that pay very well. The other is that my boyfriend needs to renew his visa come June.

So, do we stay or do we go? We certainly have been leaning towards staying, mainly because we’re feeling positive about what this year will bring job-wise. Neither of us is ready to give up the big city life. Even if we were to move back to Australia, we doubt it will be too Perth. Time moves too slowly there and we feel as though we’ve outgrown it. It’s a great place to raise a family, so maybe we’ll move back some day, but we’re not thinking about offspring just yet!

It’s so hard being torn between two places. I bet a lot of you have felt it at some stage. You want to live an exciting life and get amongst it and see the world, but on the other hand you have your family and friends back home.

What to do?

stay there kiddo. I promise you, P-Town is as boring as ever. Is ur bf an Australian born?

Yeah, Australian born and bred but his grandmother is from Scotland so I think he can get an ancestry visa for five years, which would be good. Yeah, we’re leaning towards staying! 🙂 xx

Carmen I’m glad that you’ve met friends in London that you can see being buddies with for life. That’s a good start!

When do you have to apply for the visa? Surely you can make these decisions nearer the time?

Stay – just get rid of your flatmates.

We have to make the decision by the end of next month becase that’s when we have to book our tickets home. Just trying to decide whether to get a return ticket… time is ticking!

Carmen Perth is not boring. A few new places have opened like in Wolf Lane. Why does it always have to be Perth is boring other places are exciting? Can’t they just be different?

That may have sounded catty – not intended. i just think the world is full of different places with their own charms and bad points 🙂

enjoy London, you can always come back or go back there, you don’t have to be settled either way.

No offence taken! Sorry, I didn’t mean to offend any Perthians. Life is what you make of it, no matter where you are. Some days I’d give up the never-ending number of clubs and pubs here for a day on a Perth beach. Both places have positives and negatives. That’s exactly it – they are just different.
